Just received from Kerry Outram –
Elephant and Community update from Nakuru.
The remaining 11 elephants in Sinende have now crossed the river and headed up the escarpment back into Laikipia. Fingers crossed this means the previous group which took this route earlier in the week have found refuge.
The Leakey gang are still ensconced in their new found home with no apparent plans to move yet. Janey and her family are still willing to accommodate them so no change there!
When the report on the potential poaching wave being planned was shared with the community in Sinende their reaction was astounding.
They have organised themselves into groups who take turns watching the main game and cattle paths in and out of thebarea. Their words” nobody with ill intent shall enter Sinande un seen, we will not lose a life to these people be it human or animal”
They continue to surprise us.
