Mugie Ranch – 27th Sept

Just received from Mugie –

An increase of pressure from the Samburu from the North, we just caught these three gents and their motor bike, no licence and no insurance for the bike! They are on the way to the Rumuruti Police station right now.

From left Moses Leilato,  Leikanayo Leilato , Saweya Leilato with one motorbike

All our illegal grazing issues start at about 7:30pm through the night.

Ol Maisor Ranch – 27th Sept

Just received from Ol Maisor –

Yesterday evening there was a hijacking between Kinamba and ‘Container’ and today again at ‘Corna Mbaya’. We were busy following the tracks from last night when the second attempt happened. Photos are of one our blokes who had a narrow escape with a bullet. They entered the same bush where one of the hijackers was hiding in. A sizeable exchange of fire ensued but luckily no injuries. The same guys have been harassing motorists and scouting in the area for the past few weeks and were becoming a pain.

Mugie Ranch – 25th Sept

Just received from Mugie –

Quite a large build up of Samburu on our northern boundary, most of these are living on NYS then come onto Mugie at night. One man arrested just now with cattle in the north east corner ready to feed through the night.
Yesterday we found two men with 8 dogs trying to poach wildlife on the south west boundary, unfortunately these guys got away but the Mugie bloodhounds followed the scent to Magadi where we are planning on doing a raid on the house where dogs led us to. Today we managed to pick up a few snares in the same area.

Other than these issues things are looking good, cattle are putting on condition well which is great.

Ole Naishu Ranch – 25th Sept

Just received from Ole Naishu-
Influx of cattle from Mukogodo Forest area onto northern Ole Naishu on Friday. Around 500 head of cattle detained and two arrests made. Cattle are boma’d just outside our boundary in the Ol Kinyei area of Makurian Group Ranch.

Image shows around 1,500 head just outside our northern boundary last night. Reports of more cattle on the way.

Laikipia Nature Conservancy – 24th Sept

Just received from LNC-

Increase in violence in LNC area. One of our Pokot acrobats was beaten up within an inch of his life by fellow Pokot, tied up and left for dead. Luckily his fitness paid off and he managed to force the rope used to tie his legs and get to one of our bases before passing out due to heavy bleeding. He is now stable and recovering. That night the same Pokot gang attacked our most remote gate post, also manned by other Pokot. Fired shots and burned everything including all their personal possessions. Another 2 incidents of Pokot firing shots at police and civilians in the last few days. This comes in the wake of some ‘peace meetings’- as usual, one faction of the ‘community’ seem intent on disrupting any efforts by their fellow men to create peaceful and sustainable long term solutions. This intimidation of law abiding , fellow Pokot who just want peace is needs to be addressed.Another report of 2 other Pokot murdered by fellow Pokot, accused of working with Police.

It is significant that this is occurring as leaders met in Tangulbei today to ask govt for a ‘ceasefire’.It seems some factions will not respect the ceasefire.
